Long Story Short Cafe

A sunny Saturday morning in Melbourne calls for a brunch date at a new cafe. Today my cafe of choice was Long Story Short in Richmond, which has been on my "must visit" list since seeing videos of their hot chocolate spheres on Instagram.

White Hot Chocolate Sphere with Matcha Latte Pourover + Marshmallows ($11.50)
As I'm drawn to basically anything matcha/green tea, I opted for the matcha version of the hot chocolate.
Hot Chocolate Sphere + Marshmallows ($11.50)
My friend decided to go for the original version.

What basically happens with these eccentric beverages is that you pour the hot milk over the spheres, and they slowly dissolve to reveal a few marshmallows on the inside. Despite tasting just like normal hot chocolates, they're quite a fun concept and definitely a different way to enjoy hot chocolate.

Sweet Potato Noodle Salad ($13.50)
I opted for the Asian-inspired sweet potato noodle salad and was extremely happy with this decision. The dressing had a lovely flavour and the roasted nuts gave the salad some extra crunch. There was a perfect ratio of noodles/coriander/seaweed/tofu/nuts and a generous portion.

Avocado & Poached Eggs ($17.50) + Smoked Salmon ($4.50)
My friend had the poached eggs with avocado and extra smoked salmon. It came with an array of greens (I stole the broccolini, it was great by the way) and the eggs were poached to perfection.

Baked Donuts ($4.80 each)
As we were waiting for our food to arrive we saw some appetizing baked donuts in the display cabinet at the front. To finish off our brunch, we got an Oreo and a green tea flavoured one (yes the green tea one was my choice). They were both delicious, the green tea one was slightly more moist than the Oreo one though.

Long Story Short is definitely a great alternative from the busy cafes of Bridge Road. Being so spacious, we didn't have to wait in line for a seat. Furthermore, it's a perfect place for dog spotting, as many patrons bring their dogs with them for brunch.
