Fonda Mexican (Flinders Lane)

Of course I am going to live up to the name of my blog by making my first post about... food that isn't dessert.

A group of friends and I ventured down the bustling Flinders Lane a few days ago in search of a Mexican feast. Despite nearly being run over by traffic, struggling to walk uphill for two minutes (#fitnessgoals) and sweating up a storm, we made it.

By the time we finished our intensive workout, it was around 1pm and there was not a spare seat in the (colourfully decorated) house. Luckily for us, a group of people were leaving as we arrived. Obviously they had heard whispers that the queen (me) was on her way and decided to vacate the premises for her in preparation.

We were guided to our seats by our friendly waiter and told that we were to order/pay at the front once we had decided what we wanted. Fonda's menu consists of a range of burritos, tacos, salads and quesadillas. They also have an extensive drink menu which comprises of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

I settled on the tortilla crisps, fish taco  and a "playa del sunrise" frozen margarita ($13) as I was only slightly peckish at the time.

Tortilla Crisps ($9)

The tortilla crisps were fresh and well seasoned with salt. They went perfectly with the guacamole and fresh tomato salsa that came with it. The tomato salsa had a hint of spice, but nothing too unbearable. I also enjoyed the pomegranate that came with the guacamole - a combination I hadn't seen before but in my opinion it worked.

Fish Taco ($7.50)

The fish taco was well flavoured and the fish itself was not too dry (unlike many other fish tacos I've tried). However, it was a little unsatisfying due to the price.

Abodo Chicken Quesadillas ($16)

My friends ordered the abodo chicken quesadillas to share. When asked to give a rating, they said 8/10 and 10/10. One friend particularly enjoyed the cheesy hit that the quesadillas gave.

Abodo Chicken Burrito ($15)

My other three friends all ordered the abodo chicken burrito which they believed were good, but not the best. For the price, they believe there are better burritos out there that will satisfy your Mexican cravings.

Unfortunately, table service is almost non-existent due to having to order at the counter/bar. Despite this, the staff are friendly and happy to help if you happen to catch their attention. One waiter was even kind enough to snap a group photo for us.

Fonda is a nice place for a quick lunch/dinner in the city. The food itself is great, but there is better out there for the price that you're paying. If you're not worried about your budget, Fonda is worth the visit.

You can also find Fonda in other locations around Melbourne including Richmond, Hawthorn and Windsor. Unfortunately, they do not take bookings for groups under 8. Despite the abundance of seating, it can get busy during lunch time (as mentioned earlier, we were lucky to get a seat).
